Canadian act Arcade Fire will release their fifth album this week but we haven’t heard much material from the upcoming record – only the January single ‘I Give You Power’. Now, reportedly, the new song is just around the corner.
According to Stereogum, Vancouver radio station 102.7 The Peak suggested that Arcade Fire would be releasing a new single this Friday, June 2. The original source’s tweet has been deleted since, but the post read:“Hold onto your bobble heads, @arcadefire have promised us a new tune on Friday!”
The Canadians released the anti-Trump song ‘I Give You Power’ early this year, which marked the first new material in two years. Their new album was initially expected in April but was then postponed till June.
In fact, some lucky fans have already had a chance to hear a few new Arcade Fire songs. A couple of weeks ago the band reportedly played six new tracks at a secret show in Montreal. According to Montreal Gazette, all attendees were required to check their mobiles in at the door, obviously, in order to avoid exposure of the debuting songs.
One of the attendies commented that the new tracks “exhibited pop and electronic influences in the vein of ‘Reflektor’”, the band’s last studio album.
