The band can open champagne to celebrate their fruitful 2016 with half a million album sales

Coldplay have always been and stay to this day one of UK’s favorite rock acts. But this year they’ve outperformed themselves.
The just-published chart Top 10 UK Albums of this year has Coldplay’s 2015 album A Head Full Of Dreams as the second biggest album of 2016, making it a runner-up to Adele’s record 25 and beating even Justin Bieber’s effort Purpose.

The band’s latest album harvested just over 512,000 units in combined sales. Interestingly, Coldplay didn’t hit #1 spot last year with A Head Full Of Dreams, but the record slowly made its way to the top of the sales charts early this year and stayed on demand throughout the whole year. According to NME, Coldplay are now comparable to Oasis only in that they’ve put out so many back-to-back chart topping discs.
Another huge achievement this year is David Bowie’s last album Black Star: it reached #6 with total sales of 410,000 units, making it the fastest-selling record of 2016. Just within its first week of release, following the singer’s death, the chart sales exceeded 146,000. In addition, his greatest hits record, titled Best Of Bowie, landed at #10 in the same chart of UK’s Top 10 albums.
