SEAWAY catch last hot days with late summer single ‘Curse Me Out’ – listen

The fall is approaching but with Seaway it always feels like summer – after all the album is titled Vacation…

August 24, 2017

Earlier this summer Seaway returned by announcing a fall release of their new, upbeat, beach-themed album, Vacation. On the same day we got the first bite of it – the song called ‘Apartment.’ Today, the band has debuted their next album piece, ‘Curse Me Out,’ which is “a little bit of rock, but not in-your-face rock,” according to vocalist Ryan Locke.

‘Curse Me Out’ is definitely one of the catchiest tracks on the upcoming record. Locke adds that it stands out on Vacation as it’s more pop-based and reminds of the All-American Rejects because of its mid-tempo flow. The song opens with the chorus straight away and Locke’s verse get stuck in your head for hours:

Curse me out
You’re so pretty when you put me down
Darling, every time we scream and shout
I deserve it when you curse me out

Seaway made their way to the top echelons of North American pop-punk scene thanks to their first two LPs —2013’s Hoser and 2015’s Colour Blind. But Vacation is a sort of experiment for the band, taking them back to pop-rock vibes and tunes of the ’90s. Turns out, the group wanted to try this blend for a long time but only dared now:

[quote align=”center” color=”#COLOR_CODE”]“We’re a pop-punk band at heart, but I think the influences that we grew up with really bled through on Vacation,” reveals Locke. “Some songs have poppier vibes [and] other songs have more of a punk-rock feel, [but] I guess in starting Seaway, we had an idea for it, and I think two albums later we’ve achieved it on Vacation, which is a really cool thing.”[/quote]

In fact, it took the band four years to nurture their ideas and convert them into actual recordings. “Vacation is a step in a new direction for us,” Locke says. “While still holding onto familiar aspects of the band, we definitely explored new destinations for Seaway. It is the best music we’ve written thus far; the record we’ve been working towards for the last 4 years.”  (via AltPress)

The new album is produced by two producers, including Derek Hoffman (Silverstein, Like Pacific), and instead of recording the tracks traditionally in Toronto, Seaway flew to an LA studio. Locke also felt the need to challenge himself and his improve his singing with a professional vocal coach. ‘I am definitely not a self-proclaimed ‘amazing singer,’” the frontman explains. “I’ve learned as we’ve gone along, [and] I think it was also important for the band to take that next step and really hone in on our crafts.”

Vacation is scheduled for release on September 15 via Pure Noise Records. Listen to ‘Curse Me Out’ below. Can you tell Locke’s voice has improved over the last two years?
