Stone Temple Pilots have shared the second track from the upcoming self-titled album. The dynamic song is titled ‘Roll Me Under’ and features the vocals of the new singer Jeff Gutt. Give it a listen below.
Both recently released songs ‘Roll Me Under’ and ‘Meadow’, which came out in November, will land on the band’s upcoming LP, Stone Temple Pilots, due out March 18.
It turns out, ‘Roll Me Under’ was one of the first songs the band came up with for the upcoming record:
“‘Roll Me Under’ was one of the first songs I wrote for the album, and one of the first Jeff sang on too,” bassist Robert DeLeo told Rolling Stone. “Those riffs have been kicking around in my head for years, and it felt like the right time to record and perform it.”
The new Stone Temple Pilots album will be the band’s first release since 2010, and it marks the first record with Jeff Gutt on the mic, following the death of their former lead singer Scott Weiland in 2015.
The former X Factor runner-up, Gutt debuted as the band’s new singer during a SiriusXM event in Los Angeles. He auditioned for the position of the group’s new vocalist in September 2016 and was officially joined the line-up last May.
When asked about how he decided to go to audition for STP, Gutt said: “I can’t remember what song it was, but a Stone Temple Pilots song came on the radio. So I called my buddy in New York who knows everybody in the music industry, and I was like, ‘Hey, did they ever find a singer?’ And he was like, ‘You know what? I’ll send ’em your stuff right now.’ And three days later, I got a call.” (via Blabbermouth)
