The up-and-rising Brighton band The Magic Gang is nominated for Best New Artist at NME Awards 2018

If you haven’t heard of the alternative/indie-rock guys from Brighton who call themselves The Magic Gang, it isn’t long before the word about them spreads around the internet. Just check out their new single ‘Getting Along’, accompanied by a peculiar, old-style performance video. Be sure to watch it below!

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say the visuals for ‘Getting Along’ are very “British” (and self-ironic): it sees the band members playing in the living room, wearing extremely formal suits for such an occasion. The twist of the video revolves around cutting, splitting and breaking stuff: from fruit to boiled eggs to clock-faces. Alternating these chopping scenes with showing people’s eyes produces a bit creepy effect.

‘Getting Along’ is featured on the band’s self-titled debut album, due March 16 via Yala! Records. And though the record hasn’t been released yet, these Brighton musicians have already become sort of media favorites. The Magic Gang are nominated for Best New Artist at this year’s NME Awards, which takes place on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

The Magic Gang’s rise began with a “geek-rock” single ‘No Fun’ and a couple of EPs. But with every new work, the group shows yet another, unexpected side of them. As for the upcoming album, frontman Jack Kaye told NME that they put in a lot of time, playing with ideas and perfecting them:
“We’re going in with one idea and changing it every day, which is much more fan than recording old ideas… We’re not scrambling to get stuff done. We’re going through each part of each song and trimming the fat.”
