The band’s new music video sees Chris Carrabba deal with writer’s block and… the end of the world
November 15, 2018
If you had previously listened to ‘Just What To Say’, you know there could hardly be a music video that would reflect the message of the song better than this one. The video for the most emotional ballad on the whole record was directed by Ryan Hamblin. In the clip, we see Chris Carrabba struggle to express his feelings and come up with any new lyrics or songs:
«I feel like I’m starting
And just when I’m starting, I’m starting to stray
And every day, I take a white page
And try very hard to know just what to say»
But just when you think you’ve already seen plenty of such videos, Florida’s musicians add a twist that will definitely raise your eyebrows (spoiler alert!). At the end of the clip, when the singer turns on the TV, he finds out the apocalypse is nearing! He rushes to the phone but his phone line is dead due to «the state of emergency». And the TV screen that just read «end of the world” loses any signal whatsoever.
The album-closing, most personal song from Crooked Shadows, ‘Just What To Say’ also features Against The Current’s voice, Chrissy Costanza. The guest singer doesn’t appear in the clip, but the music video isn’t lacking anything, as its idea is going alone through this desperate search for words and inspiration.
