Flyleaf’s future is up in the air now that the frontwoman, Kristen May, has announced leaving the band. The singer delivered the news in the farewell video she posted on her Facebook page. It’s the second time the band loses the vocalist, the first one being Lacey Sturm who left in 2012.

Among the reasons for exiting Flyleaf, May mentions family matters: she says she would like to spend more time with her son, while being in the band demands spending a lot of time on the road.

«The reasons behind my leaving… One of them right now, obviously, is that I wanna be the best mom I can be, and I wanna be here for my son for everything.» May explains.

«I’ve toured in bands and been on the road and away from home for twelve years. And so, for me, to be able to plant some roots for a little bit with my son and with my husband and our dogs here at my home is really, really important to me. I feel like it’s something that God has called me to do. I feel like it’s a very high calling for me, and a very clear calling for me.»

May honestly admits she had never truly felt like she was part of the Flyleaf team: «I’m sure a lot of people feel that way when they come into a band that had a previous lead singer. The story isn’t all mine. And so I never truly felt like I fit in,» reveals the frontman.

What do the rest of Flyleaf have to say on May’s decision? Will they go on without her and look for another singer? The band hasn’t commented yet, so stay tuned for more details to arrive soon on Alterock.

As for May’s future plans, she cannot imagine her life without making music but she’s also hoping to dedicate herself to yoga and wellness, and improve her painting skills.

May has been part of the outfit since 2012 and took part in recording Flyleaf’s latest album, Between The Stars, which came out in 2014.
