The 2015 Grammy Awards ceremony, held on February 8 in Los Angeles, has proved that when it comes to heavier music categories, the Academy Awards board seems to have no idea what the term METAL actually stands for

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards took place on February 8, 2015 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The show was broadcast live by CBS. Interestingly enough, for the fourth time in a row the show was hosted by the rapper LL Cool J.

Jack Black Wallpaper @ Go4Celebrity.comNow, do you remember this photo of Jack Black with a happy winning smile on his face, featured in our recent publication? If you’ve been following AlteRock.net over the past couple of months, in a December article we posted our own predictions on who the 2015 Grammy awards in rock and metal music would go to, suggesting: «…as Tenacious D is the most recognizable name in the list, Jack Black may as well get the Grammy and put out his tongue at the serious metal buddies… Will common sense win, or shall we watch another hilarious speech by Jack Black?» As sarcastic as the prediction was meant to be, it turned out to be true. The Grammy board, probably, wanted to hear another joke from a famous comedy actor, when they announced that the Best Metal Performance was «The Last in Line» by Tenacious D, a cover of Ronnie James Dio. It is despite the fact that Jack Black’s competitors in this category were way more serious metal bands (Anthrax, Mastodon, Motörhead and Slipknot performances).

The nomination for the Best Rock Song was won by Paramore for their hit «Ain’t It Fun». It’s also becoming an Academy Awards tradition to include Paramore into the Grammy nominees list every single year: the band had been nominated three times before, in 2008, 2010 and 2011, each time in a different category, but it is the first time the guys left the ceremony with the actual statue in their hands.

Beck’s album, titled Morning Phase, got the Best Rock Album statue from the Academy, having left Ryan Adams and U2 records behind. The Best Rock Performance award went to Jack White’s «Lazaretto». Check out other artists who received the main 2015 Grammy awards below.
