U2’s mainman Bono paid tribute to Dennis Sheehan, the band’s long-time tour manager, during the second night of Innocence + Experience tour in the Los Angeles Forum. Watch the live footage of this performance below.

On May 27, Dennis Sheehan was found unconscious at the Sunset Marquis Hotel, soon after the band kicked off their five-night show series in LA. Paramedics were reportedly called after he was found unresponsive in the early hours of the morning; shortly thereafter, he was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. According to TMZ, the cause of death was determined to be cardiac arrest.

Sheehan, who was 68, was in charge of the band’s tour management for 33 years. Besides, he was also known for his work with Led Zeppelin and Iggy Pop. “We’ve lost a family member, we’re still taking it in,” Bono said in the official statement. “He wasn’t just a legend in the music business, he was a legend in our band. He is irreplaceable.”

During the second show night at Los Angeles Forum, Bono made a pause in the live set and gave a personal speech about Sheehan’s life and collaboration with the band: “U2’s family – it’s a brotherhood, although there’s a lot of sisters in it, too,” the singer said. “But the extended family is very important to us and we look after each other. It takes a lot to put on a show like tonight, and last night we lost a member of our family. Dennis Sheehan was his name. He was U2’s tour manager for 33 years.”

“A lot of U2 songs over the years have been written to fill a void, an absence, a hole in the heart left by a loved one. And this next one is one of those,” Bono said as an introduction to the track ‘Iris’, which the band started playing after this speech. The song was originally written by Bono in memory of his mother who died when he was 14 years old. “We dedicate this song… in fact we dedicate the night… in fact we dedicate our whole tour to the very vivid memory of Dennis Sheehan, St. Dennis of Dublin, as he’s known around here”, Bono added.
