Depeche Mode, Jane’s Addiction and Bad Brains were among the nominees but didn’t make it to the final list
December 20, 2016
You might have been wondering who follows Green Day’s “path” and receives the honor to be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. The list of just announced rock’n’roll inductees isn’t very surprising this time: it’s legendary bands and musicians who would have been selected by the Hall of Fame one day or another. Congratulations to the 2017 inductees:
- Pearl Jam
- Joan Baez
- Tupac Shakur
- Journey
- Electric Light Orchestra
- Yes
- Nile Rodgers of Chic
Interestingly, among other nominees were Depeche Mode, Janet Jackson, Jane’s Addiction and Bad Brains, none of whom made it onto the list this time. While the latter two haven’t reached quite the same success worldwide as the former two, it’s a shame the Hall of Fame has left rock icons Depeche Mode without this honorable title.
So what does the whole Rock And Roll Hall of Fame selection process look like? In order to land on the list of the nominees, at least 25 years should have passed since the release of the band’s or musician’s first single. The list of nominees is announced in October, and this is where fans pick it up: it’s the fifth year in which anyone (alongside the Rock Hall voting body) can vote for the potential inductees. Those artists who didn’t make “the final cut” this year are also eligible for The Hall of Fame later on.
The announced 2017 winners will be inducted on April 7 ceremony next year. The event is held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The ticket details will be announced in January.
