The band’s breakthrough album Apocalyptica plays Metallica by Four Cellos has turned two decades, so get ready to hear your favorites
March 10, 2018
Last spring Finnish cello metallists Apocalyptica celebrated the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough debut record, Apocalyptica plays Metallica by Four Cellos, by a tour with their famous Metallica set. The crowds’ reaction was so overwhelming that the band recently added a massive tour of Russia, and in a couple of weeks they’ll be performing on the stages of the biggest Russian cities of Moscow (March 26) and St. Petersburg (March 27).
Since the tour is honoring the release of Apocalyptica’s iconic 1996 cover album, Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, you can expect to hear your favorite cello renditions of Metallica’s hits but there’s one big surprise the band has stored for you.
You’re probably wondering: “Hm, the debut record featured four cellos, but isn’t Apocalyptica now a trio?” Get excited! Specially for this tour the band’s fourth member, Antero Manninen, who played on the debut album, is back on the road with Eicca, Perttu and Paavo to ensure the power and the original raw feeling of their live covers.
And of course, two decades deserve a proper nod, so Apocalyptica recently released a remastered version of their first record, including their versions of ‘Battery’, ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and ‘Seek & Destroy’.
Be sure to catch the band in Russia in one of the 9 cities they’re hitting this spring (see the list below), and find Moscow tickets at this location and St. Petersburg tickets here.
