AGAINST ME! have entered the studio to record new album / Frontwoman Laura Jane Grace talks the hardships of her coming out as a transgender

October 12, 2015

Punk-rockers Against Me! have entered the studio to work on their seventh full-length studio album. Laura Jane Grace announced via Twitter that the band is currently working on their new record in the studio with producer Marc Jacob Hudson (Taking Back Sunday, Saves The Day, Worriers), who is also the band’s on-and-off tour manager and front of house engineer (via Altpress). Hudson also produced their live album, 23 Live Sex Acts, released on September 4, which features Against Me! recorded 2014 tour.

Grace_StudioQThe new album will be the follow up to 2014’s Transgender Dysphoria Blues – the first longplay since the band’s vocalist Laura Jane Grace came out as a transgender woman. Two years earlier, in 2012, the 34-year-old Grace announced her turning into a transgender and began taking hormone meds. These changes led to the departure of the band’s drummer and bassist soon afterwards, followed by dramatic changes in Grace’s family life.

All these hardships in Grace’s life inspired AOL to shoot web documentary series True Trans, which was nominated for a 2015 Emmy Awards. The hardest part is over now, the vocalist admits and goes on to say, “The past two years of my life as the best thus far” (via Billboard). But the singer had to overcome a lot of public and inner obstacles on the way. “I bottomed out and had a nervous breakdown,” Grace says in the recent interview to Billboard. “I equate it to having to destroy a former ego; you had this person that you held on to because it was who you were told you were. You had to destroy that first before you could become somebody else and start living a new life.” You can read the whole interview at this location.
