The band will release their new seven-track EP ‘fever’ on July 23
Against The Current are bringing up the issues of mental health and being in the vicious cycle of your own mind in their new single ‘again&again’. The song features guardin and marks the third work from the band’s upcoming EP ‘fever’, arriving July 23.
Fever is the seven-track EP, which is the group’s first major release since their album Past Lives of 2018. The latest track, ‘again&again’, is deceptively positive sonically, while its lyrics are all about how real and pressing the feeling of this “mental gum” can be. In the music video we see the singer waking out of one room into another, opening door after door – just to find herself in the same place again and again.
“I wanted to encapsulate the maddening feeling of being trapped in a vicious cycle in your own head, and especially show that just because it’s all in your head, doesn’t at all detract from how real and potent that feeling can be,” comments the band’s vocalist Chrissy Costanza.

An essential addition to this song is the part by indie musician guardin. Prior to the release of ‘again&again’, they had to get creative with the intensified restrictions and work remotely, but it was incomparable to be working together in the same room, once the COVID-19 grip was eased a bit:
“We were also really stoked to work with guardin,” Costanza continues. “It was such a blast getting to be the three of us in person again. After ‘that won’t save us,’ restrictions had tightened up so everything we’d done since was remote until this shoot. Though we were able to get creative with the distance, nothing compares to being together in real life again.”
The new EP by Against The Current discusses not only the questions of mental health but battling with yourself, or as they put it, “burning out the infection within us”. “Throughout our lives we ebb and flow through stages of death, rebirth, growth and so the cycle continues,” explains the front woman.
“Yet sometimes the metaphorical dying aspect can be quite painful, or we may attempt to prolong the inevitable. Fevers occur when the body is trying to battle an infection, and sometimes our lives become infected as well. This EP is about the fever, burning out the infection within us and around us, so something new can be born.”
‘again&again’ is the third single from the band’s upcoming EP, after their recently launched tracks ‘weapon’ and ‘that won’t save us’. The EP was produced by mega famous Matt Squire who’s worked on Panic! At The Disco and Ariana Grande’s releases.

“again&again” lyrics:
My body’s a temple
crowded with ghosts
hard as I try
i’m never alone
Hear me out
Yeah I keep it together
Like a smattering of addicts in the dark
Yeah I keep it together
It’s a place where
monsters walk around
how did silence get so loud?
now it’s’ all in my head, in my head, in my head, in my head
It’s over and over again and again and again and again, yeah
can somebody stop time
keep my hands from shaking
i’ve tried but somehow i’m breaking
again and again and again and again, yeahIt’s over and over again
I’m scared to wake them, scared to move
So I tiptoe around the room
Hear me out
Yeah I keep it together
Cause we all got thoughts we never say out loud
And just keep them forever
It’s a place where
monsters walk around
how did silence get so loud?
now it’s’ all in my head, in my head, in my head, in my head
It’s over and over again and again and again and again, yeah
can somebody stop time
keep my hands from shaking
i’ve tried but somehow i’m breaking
again and again and again and again, yeah
It’s over and over again
wait for the silence
forsaking serenity
internal dialogue
voice of the enemy
lost in a world where the seams burst so readily
i wasn’t ready to disperse this energy
i wasn’t ready to pick up and go
head vs heart they keep telling me no
now & again i’ve been losing control
left all alone
now it’s’ all in my head, in my head, in my head, in my head
It’s over and over again and again and again and again, yeah
can somebody stop time
keep my hands from shaking
i’ve tried but somehow i’m breaking
again and again and again and again, yeah
It’s over and over again
