Henry Derek BonnerIf you’ve missed the latest news, here is what happened. The musician was driving on the freeway on his way home Sunday night, when all of a sudden a drunk driver hit his car, making it roll over three times and land onto the oncoming traffic lane. The suspected driver left the scene.

Bonner has released the statement about the details of the severe accident to the metal website Blabbermouth. Here are the main excerpts from it:

“As most of you may know, I was involved in a serious car accident on the 101 freeway in Los Angeles. This happened around 11 p.m. on Sunday night. I was traveling southbound, heading home from a recording session.

I am still waiting on the official police report. All I know for certain at this time is that the suspected drunk driver that hit me took off on foot, as his/her car was completely totaled. It’s also possible that the vehicle was stolen, however, not confirmed.

Needless to say, it was a traumatic experience and the scene itself was unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of… The impact of the crash propelled me into the left 3 lanes of oncoming traffic.

It’s no small miracle that I am still alive. Hell, I even crawled back into the wreckage to retrieve my lyric book and my D’Angelo CD. How fucking METAL is that?

As far as some are concerned, I should’ve just rolled over and died, then and there. To those I kindly ask: Eat a dick. The truth is: I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.

I’d like to thank all of the wonderful people that have offered support, encouraging words and who have donated to the cause”, the singer conlcudes. The donations account was set up after the crash to cover the costs of Bonner’s medical care. The campaign is still ongoing till January 26, but the received financial support has already surpassed the initial necessary sum, Loudwire reports. WENN stated, the donations campaign collected more than $900 by now.

Scar The Martyr is an industrial/heavy metal band, formed just in 2013 as a side project of former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison. Henry Derek Bonner was its singer for one year but released a statement in April 2014 claiming that he was leaving the band “due to personal differences, artistic direction and a slew of business decisions that I cannot simply ignore.” Soon afterwards various sources stated that Bonner’s decision to leave was not his own initiative, saying Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison asked him go away after band-related fights.

Henry Derek Bonner is currently a singer of Thrown Into Exile, and he was also reported to have recently joined another band, launched by ex-Megadeth members Chris Broderick (guitar) and Shawn Drover (drums).
