December 23, 2015

The Financial Times report, Green Day’s members Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt have been busy working on the launch of a new coffee roasting company, named Oakland Coffee Works. And it’s not just another purely profit-driven startup. Green Day have created a company with a clear-cut mission, that is the use of environmentally-friendly, compostable coffee bags and pods.

Oakland Coffee Works and its partners UrthPact and UltraFlex have been working on developing special starch and sugar-based bags, which are already available now. Green Days’ coffee pods will be available in January 2016.

Mike Dirnt has commented on the launch of a coffee company by a punk band: “Aging punk rockers gotta have a vice. I’ve been drinking coffee all these years, I looked at the coffee bags and realized they’re all landfill. It was astonishing to me. I hope that the big companies out there step up to the plate too.”
