This is White’s first new music since 2014, and it’s pretty catchy

Since Jack White released his last album, Lazaretto (2014), we haven’t heard new stuff from the musician, apart from a couple of collaborations over the past two years. Now White has finally served us something fresh – a new single ‘Battle Cry.’ Give it a listen below!

Last year White was also featured in was Beyonce’s song ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’, in which he also shined as a producer and co-writer. The song was nominated for Best Rock Performance at this year’s Grammy Awards in February. But White insists it’s Beyonce to be praised most for the end product:

“She took just sort of a sketch of a lyrical outline and turned into the most bodacious, vicious, incredible song,” he told NPR. “I don’t even know what you’d classify it as — soul, rock and roll, whatever. ‘Don’t Hurt Yourself’ is incredibly intense; I’m so amazed at what she did with it.”

The stakes are high for White, as his previous record, Lazaretto, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2014 and got nominated for Best Alternative Music Album, while the title track grabbed a Grammy for Best Rock Performance.

Last month White told in an interview with The New Yorker that he was going to write new songs all in his head, like Michael Jackson did:

“I want to write like Michael Jackson would write—instead of writing parts on the instruments or humming melodies, you think of them. To do everything in my head and to do it in silence and use only one room.”
