Dark alt-metal Swedes Katatonia are preparing to release their 10th (!) studio album, The Fall of Hearts, in just two weeks, on May 20. In the meantime, they are treating us to some of their new music. The band has shared their new song, a positive catchy song with a lyric title ‘Serein.’

Alterock-katatonia-fall-of-hearts-album-coverA few years ago you wouldn’t have seen any Katatonia updates on Alterock website, as the Swedish musicians preferred heavier metal sound. However, the band’s music direction in the recent years has been way lighter, but not less atmospheric or melodic.

The Fall of Hearts is the first album featuring Katatonia’s newest line-up members, drummer Daniel Moilanen and guitarist Roger Öjersson. The group’s previous drummer Daniel Liljekvist left the band after 15 years behind the kit, explaining that he wanted to spend more time with his family and to have a “normal job”. Guitarist Per ‘Sodo’ Eriksson exited the band in 2014 due to classical “difference in views”, followed by his decision to move to Barcelona. The new guitarist, Roger Öjersson, has delivered lead guitar parts on three tracks of the new album.

In between the past couple of years, Katatonia invited temporary musicians to step in for Liljekvist and Eriksson, but with the two new members it seems that the line-up is now pretty much steady and ready to rock the stages.

Katatonia’s fans had enjoyed the first bite of the upcoming The Fall of Hearts album with the release of the first single from the record, ‘Old Hearts Fall.’ The band’s latest release to date was 2015′ live album Sanctitude, issued on DVD and CD. The forthcoming 10th album will be released May 20 via Peaceville Records.
