Kittie describe ‘Eyes Wide Open’ as “a lesson in trust and betrayal”

Canadian death-metal quartet Kittie chose Valentine’s Day to launch their first single in 13 years. The new track, titled ‘Eyes Wide Open’, premiered earlier this week on SiriusXM and now hit all the music platforms. ‘Eyes Wide Open’ marks Kittie’s first new studio work since 2011’s I’ve Failed You.

Kittie’s comeback story started a couple of years ago with bookers encouraging them to play a few shows in the wake of the interest to nu-metal in recent years. The band officially ended their hiatus in January 2022, and Ivana “Ivy” Jenkins rejoined the band on bass. In September of the same year, Kittie performed live again, for the first time since 2017, at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Alton, Virginia.

Introducing ‘Eyes Wide Open’ on Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal channel, the band also dropped the news they had inked with Sumerian Records, which leads fans to believe the new album won’t take long to be written and released. The new single was produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Korn). It comes with a music video, which you can enjoy below.

Kittie members call ‘Eyes Wide Open’ a lesson in trust and betrayal:

“Our first new material in 13 years, ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a vision quest for truth,” explains vocalist/guitarist Morgan Lander. “It is a torch lit in the darkness of ignorance to reveal one’s true motives. ‘Eyes Wide Open’ is a lesson in trust, betrayal, and ultimately the ability to see behind the curtain to reveal all. It was one of the first songs we wrote, coming together again after a long time away from creating, and I think you can really hear the fires reigniting in this track.”
