Parajanov-Vartanov Institute will award SYSTEM OF A DOWN for their commitment to justice showcased by Wake Up the Souls tour
October 13, 2015
System of a Down will receive the 2015 Parajanov-Vartanov Institute Award for their commitment to justice expressed through ‘Wake Up the Souls’ tour. We’ll remind that the tour was going under the flag of commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with the underlying aim to convince the governments around the world to officially acknowledge the genocide and “present our cultural assets while fighting for justice,” as Serj Tankjan put it earlier (via Loudwire). In April SOAD played their first ever concert in Armenia at Yerevan’s Republic Square, which was not only a significant achievement for the band but also the unique show that was webcast around the world. You can watch the full Yerevan show below.
The efforts of the band did not go unnoticed by the scholars of The Parajanov-Vartanov Institute, which uses its activity to oppose the pressures and violations of justice by totalitarian regimes. The Institute has announced their intention to award System of a Down for their commitment to the common goal on the way to justice. The ceremony will take place at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood on October 21.
