THE PUSSYBATS: We Have The Sweetest Fans

1728
The Pussybats are four guys from Germany, who launched their alternadarkglamrock band, as they prefer to name it, back in 2006. The musicians – Mike, Hol2y, Marple 8 and Sid – have been quite confident of their skills and creativity right from the start, and not without a reason. Just a year later they won the Battle Of The Bands by Sonic Seducer magazine, and their debut album, Famous Last Songs immediately put them into the spotlight on the local music scene. Their version of White Town hit ‘Your Woman’, featured on the first record, saw the singer and composer of the original song, Jyoti Mishra, send his congratulations by email, admitting the cover was great. The Pussybats latest album PussyPussyBangBang, which came out in 2014, marked quite a sharp turn to the new stylistic direction, making their sound rather gothic than alternative rock. Alterock.net had a chance to ask the band’s singer and guitarist Sid all sorts of music-related questions. Besides, the frontman also told us why The Pussybats fans are the most caring in the world and shared his top-secret wish to steal some of Rammstein’s pyrotechnics…

Just a few days ago you toured with Megaherz. How was it?
It was just a great time with great guys, great fans and great moments. Rock’n’roll as it should be.

The Pussybats have already played at famous Wave Gotik Treffen. What other big festivals have you done so far?
So far, the WGT was the most “famous” one. But the special thing about it is that it doesn’t feel like a “big” festival because of the structure of the event.

Which of your gigs is your personal №1 in your entire live experience?
The best gig is always the next one!

If you could get absolutely any band out there to hit the road with, who would you prefer to tour with?
Ooooh, difficult question. Perhaps, Rammstein – to steal some of the pyros. They wouldn’t even notice it I guess…

Your fans say you’ve slightly changed your stage image and perform in black shirts now. Why such a change? Are there more image changes coming?
Actually, I perform in a white shirt! Well, life is a constant evolution.

Pussybats_2When I first heard your music, the Finnish gothic rock band The 69 Eyes came to my mind. When people who don’t know The Pussybats ask you “What bands do you sound like?”, what do you usually say?
The 69 Eyes (smiles). And of course, a lot of other thing. As a musician, you always think that you sound “like nobody else”. But I guess people who like bands like The 69 Eyes, HIM or similar ones are very likely to like us.

When is your next album to be expected? What music direction are you going to take on your new record?
We’ve already written a whole bunch of songs and are currenty in the production. What we can say is that it will be very much influenced by the input of our new guitarist Hol2y. Expect it to be somewhat heavier than our last one.

Your White Town cover ‘Your Woman’ was and still is your most famous song, and the video for it pops up first place when googling the band on the Internet. Shall we expect some more hit covers in the near future?
Expect some more hit songs in the future! Well, we will see. We plan to put another cover on the next record, but first we will have to choose – and you know, there are millions and millions of songs out there, but finding a “perfect match” is always a long and rocky road. Hey, that sounds exectly like finding a girlfriend!

How important is it for you to be down-to-earth and keep in touch with your fans?
Being down to earth is important for anybody, isn’t it? And it’s always good to keep in mind who’s supporting you, who enables you to do your thing – and last but not least, is the reason for you to have fun on stage. Concerts without fans are pretty… well boring? Of course, we have the best fans in the world and it is always a pleasure for us to meet, talk and drink with them!

What’s the craziest thing your fans have ever done for you?
Well, it wasn’t actually a fan in the most “classic” sense. But we slept over at a girl’s place one time after a gig – and as she got to know that I am a veggie, she cooked vegetarian for her and her family for two weeks because normally, she’s a carnivore and didn’t know what recipes will be good. That was one of the best 3-o’clock-caterings we ever got – but it felt a little bit “over the top”, especially if you know that I don’t eat very much in general. And there is one guy – mate of a cool band calle Eden, who actually has a Pussybats tattoo.

If you could turn back time and not do one nasty thing you did, what would you do differently or prefer not to do at all?
We don’t regret. anything.

Most media writing about The Pussybats are German-language media. What would you like to tell your English-speaking listeners all around the world and the readers of AlteRock.net?
Learn German, so you can read a lot more about us! Apart from that, we’d love to visit all of you guys soon. Stay rock!
