‘DiE4u’ is about “seeing who you really are and what’s important”, says frontman Oli Sykes
Bring Me The Horizon have just made their fans’ week with a new music video for their latest song ‘DiE4u’. Despite previous COVID-19-related lockdowns all over the world, the band didn’t get glued to their sofas. They used the low-key time to record the new single remotely.
Frontman Oli Sykes was working on his parts, dwelling in Brazil during lockdown, while BMTH producer and keyboardist Fish was mastering the track from his studio in the U.K. The song focuses on dealing with your demons and re-evaluating what really matters in life:
“‘DiE4u’ is a song about toxic obsessions, vices and things you can’t kick,” Sykes says. “I think a lot of people went through very similar struggles while in lockdown, coming face to face with yourself and seeing who you really are and what’s important.”
Lockdown times were overall quite productive for the band. Back in October 2020, Bring Me The Horizon started releasing a series of EPs planned as part of their Post Human era. Their fall tour 2021 quickly became a sold-out, adding up to their earlier success: incidentally, their 2013 track ‘Sleepwalking’ has now received silver certification, having sold over 200,000 units, points out Alternative Press.

The song is of a personal depth for Sykes, too. It reflects his musing on how we treat ourselves, treat each other and treat the whole world:
“The song is a triumphant and emotional one for me because it was a time of realization to kick the things that were no good and to take the choice in bettering myself,” opened up the vocalist. ”It also connects to a deeper theme about us as a society and how we need to look at the way we treat ourselves, each other, as well as the world.”
The accompanying music video was directed by Sykes, who is now comfortable in the director’s chair and enjoys all sorts of visual experiments. The action of the post-apocalyptic music video takes place at a night club dubbed ‘Club Hellhole’. In the clip, the band is performing, surrounded by vampires and and other blood-thirsty creatures.
The band is about to start the short Post Human tour in the U.K., joined by their rock colleagues, British band You Me At Six. The Post Human tour is kicking off Sept 20 in Hull, with You Me At Six and Nova Twins. Check out all their upcoming dates for the tour below. As for the U.S. fans of BMTH, they have a chance to catch the band live at this year’s Knotfest 2021. The annual festival is obviously headlined by powerhouse rockers Slipknot.
