As a part of the “Music Icons” sale at Julien’s Auctions, several Nirvana items will go for sale this June. Among the articles for sale the most valuable item is the 1959 Martin D-18E guitar, which Kurt Cobain played during Nirvana’s epic MTV Unplugged show. If you’ve got some extra cash in your pocket, you can become its owner, no? The starting price is a moderate $1 million.
“Music Icons” sale will take place on Julien’s Auctions website on June 19-20. The guitar will be on display at the Hard Rock Cafe in London’s Piccadilly Circus starting this Friday, May 15, for two weeks, and then travel to be displayed in Beverly Hills, June 15th through 19th.
The guitar comes with the original hard-shell case, inside which you’ll find a half-used pack of Martin guitar strings, three picks, and a “suede ‘stash’ bag”, decorated with a small silver spoon, fork, and knife. President of the auction house, Darren Julien, said in a statement:
“This important guitar has earned its rightful place in rock & roll history as the instrument played by one of rock’s most influential musicians and icons in one of the greatest and most memorable live performances of all time,”
But if you don’t have a million dollars, you should check out the list of other Nirvana lots. Julien’s Auctions sale will include a Fender Strat Cobain smashed during Nirvana’s 1994 tour In Utero, the T-shirt he wore in the ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ video, the lyric sheets he used for ‘Plateau’, ‘The Man Who Sold the World’, and ‘Lake of Fire’.
