The new song is a piano ballad, possibly a result of the band’s collaboration with Elton John

June 4, 2016

Last night at Ontario’s Caesars Windsor the band premiered a new song, with just Brandon Flowers playing the piano and signing. It’s a beautiful ballad with powerful lyrics, which some believe is the first taste of the band’s collaboration with Elton John. The band played the new track as an intro to ‘Bling (Confession of a King)’.

At the same show The Killers covered Interpol’s single ‘Obstacle 1’, which you can see below in a fan-shot footage from the Canadian concert.

This was the first time The Killers performed without their bassist Mark Stoermer, who took a decision to quit touring last week to spend more time on making new solo album Dark Arts and “educational opportunities” (via NME). Jake Blanton, who already toured with the band in 2013, will be his replacement for now.

However, it doesn’t mean that Stoermer will not take part in the recording of The Killers’ new album, the follow-up to LP Battle Born in 2012. The Killers are working on the new record together, with the songs going into the production phase next.

“What I want is to take the experience of playing over a thousand shows and mix that with the enthusiasm we had making our first album, Hot Fuss,” Flowers told in a recent interview to Loaded.

NME wrote this past February that Elton John was planning to go to Las Vegas to collaborate with the band on their upcoming album. The legendary musician said: “I’m hoping to go to Vegas and write with Brandon for the new Killers record… So that’ll be interesting.”
