As a tribute to the singer, NYC subway has introduced David Bowie MetroCards

April 17, 2018

As Brooklyn Vegan reports, New York fans of the late icon can now buy brand new Bowie MetroCards. The subway cards are available at Broadway-Lafayette station, close to the SoHo condo, where David Bowie used to live for many years.

Bowie MetroCards, reportedly, cost $6.50 and have a two-ride minimum. You can see the designs of the subway cards in the Instagram post below. «I’m dropping out of school to become a transit card collector,» wrote one fan on Instagram, having read the news.

In fact, the entire Broadway-Lafayette station has become one big tribute to the legendary artist: from ‘David Bowie Is’ exhibition adverts to a giant mural outside the station. Bowie had lived in New York for over 20 years and in an interview in 2003 said:
“I’ve lived in New York longer than I’ve lived anywhere else. It’s amazing. I am a New Yorker.”
Unfortunately, not all Bowie tributes enjoy respect and admiration of passers-by. In the market square of Aylesbury, England, the statue of the singer was vandalised within the first 48 hours of the tribute being erected.

If you’re a Bowie’s fan, don’t miss this year’s Record Store Day, which will take place on April 21. You’ll find Bowie’s rare records, including an iconic live performance. For details, head to David Bowie website.
