“Without events nothing is happening”, reads the tagline of the protests
Coronavirus has severely undermined companies and professionals in the event industry. To draw government’s attention to the worsening situation, today, September 8, Finland’s biggest cities, Helsinki and Turku have held organized protests.
In the capital city, the demonstrations took place in front of the Helsinki Parliament House and Citizen’s Hall. Event industry workers in Turku gathered in expression of support on the Independence Square. The protesters’ tagline goes: “Without events nothing is happening”.

The participants were handed a red light before moving on to the square. They were also encouraged to bring event equipment which hadn’t been in use for a long while now due to COVID-19 related restrictions.
If the event sector does not get back on its feet soon, there will be a loss of 1.5 billion euros in total value, MTV uutiset reports. Consequently, 20,000 full-time and 175,000 temporary jobs in the industry are also at risk.
At the same time, the event industry staff presented their proposal to Minister of Economic Affairs, Mika Lintilä, requesting support for people in concert-related jobs.
The protests were broadcast live by MTV News Live and Yle Areena.
