There are plenty of My Chemical Romance covers out there, but this one got Gerard Way really impressed

Of My Chemical Romance’s legacy the track that’s covered the most and sung in karaoke most is probably ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’. The band gets numerous links to check out yet another cover but only a few really catch MCR’s attention.

And this particular rendition Gerard Way simply couldn’t leave unnoticed. Australian pop-punk singer Alex Lahey and her band performed an awesome cover of the undying My Chemical Romance song.

Lahey and her colleagues delivered the live performance of ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ on the Australian radio. The cover played on station Triple J’s as part of Like A Version program. Way personally took to Instagram to talk about how much it means to him and how Lahey’s cover gave him chills.

“This made my morning! Alex Lahey and her band covering Welcome To The Black Parade. Last month, Frank told me about the beautiful Kimya Dawson cover of Kids From Yesterday, which was so special. Then, a friend of mine just sent me a link to this Alex Lahey cover, which gave me chills (both covers did, really, and both for different reasons),” Way wrote on Instagram.

“And what I appreciate about Alex and Co’s Parade cover is how much they really went for it, and with all of the additional instruments (those cymbals!) and everyone singing and just smiling and having a good time. Really amazing performance. It’s a really nice feeling to see such fantastic musicians appreciating our work.”

As it turns out, Way enjoys Lahey’s music in general, not only her cover. MCR ex-singer loves Lahey’s first album I Love You Like A Brother. See the full post below.

Alex Lahey is an up-and-rising pop-punk musician and singer, whose latest album, The Best Of Luck Club, came out in spring 2019. She got media spotlight thanks to her debut effort, I Love You Like A Brother.

This made my morning! Alex Lahey (@alex_lahey) and her band covering Welcome To The Black Parade. Last month, Frank told me about the beautiful Kimya Dawson (@kimyadawson) cover of Kids From Yesterday, which was so special. Then, a friend of mine just sent me a link to this Alex Lahey cover, which gave me chills (both covers did, really, and both for different reasons). I appreciated how delicate and raw and soulful Kimya’s cover was, it made me look at the song in a different way. And what I appreciate about Alex and Co’s Parade cover is how much they really went for it, and with all of the additional instruments (those cymbals!) and everyone singing and just smiling and having a good time. Really amazing performance. My friend told me to check out her album, I Love You Like A Brother and I thought it was great, you should check it out too if you like. But watch this performance if you can, and watch Kimya’s cover of Kids, it is on her Insta dated July 29th, and check out her amazing albums as well. It’s a really nice feeling to see such fantastic musicians appreciating our work. #alexlahey #kimyadawson #theblackparade #welcometotheblackparade
