The band decided to withdraw from New York and Boston shows of the Hella Mega Tour

Fall Out Boy have just made the decision not to perform at the Boston and New York shows on the Hella Mega tour. The tour also features Green Day, Weezer and other famous rock bands. This short-notice cancellation comes after a member of their staff tested positive for COVID-19.

“Out of an abundance of auction, Fall Out Boy will not perform at the New York and Boston shows of the Hella Mega Tour due to an individual on the band’s team testing positive for COVID,” wrote Fall Out Boy guys. “Green Day, Weezer and the Interrupters will perform as scheduled.”

At the same time, Patrick Stump & Co. pointe out that all the band members and crew of the tour are vaccinated:

“It’s important to note that everyone on the entire tour, both band and crew, are fully vaccinated. Each band and their crew have operated in a bubble independently to safeguard everyone as much as possible at each show and in between shows. The tour also has a COVID safety protocol officer on staff full-time that is ensuring everyone is closely following all CDC guidelines.”

It’s sad to hear about FOB’s withdrawal so soon, as the band were just on their fifth date of the Hella Mega tour. In the circumstances of the continued pandemic, lots of musicians are doing their best, coming up on stage to delight their fans, who have been missing live shows for more than a year now. Among other bands who have recently cancelled their live shows are Foo Fighters, Deftones and Gojira, skipping their summer tour dates due to testing positive and the aggressive Delta variant of coronavirus.

As Alternative Press points out, some musicians choose to play it extra safe, requiring proof of vaccination upon entry to shows or setting skyrocketing ticket prices for those without the jabs. In the case of MakeWar and Rutterkin, for instance, their concert tickets cost only $18 for vaccinated fans, while unvaccinated ones had to pay a hefty $1,000:

“I wanted it to be a vaccine drive to get the fence-sitters off the fence,” explained the show organizer, Paul Williams, told ABC News. “I wanted to get the kids that want to go to shows to go out and get their shots.”

So far, 70% of adult Americans have been vaccinated, but the new cases are reported in dozens of thousands every day.
