“Death Punch and I have kind of come to a crossroads”, explains Moody

April 21, 2017

Out of the blue the news has broken today that Ivan Moody is leaving Five Finger Death Punch. According to Rock Feed, the singer has revealed on radio station 106.7 KPBI that he intends to leave the band once their 2017 tour is finished.

The truth is, since November tour Moody hasn’t been in shape to perform live, resulting in a stage meltdown, awkward fan-filmed video footage and lots of unpleasant feedback from shocked fans. Moody called it a “mental meltdown” but it wasn’t better the following night, so Moody left the tour, explaining that he had “fallen ill”. From there on All That Remains’ frontman Phil Labonte filled in on the mic.

But Moody isn’t leaving for health or family reasons: he will start a new band, Villian. Here’s what the vocalist says of the planned departure from Five Finger Death Punch:
“To be completely honest with you, Death Punch and I have kind of come to a crossroads. We’re very proud of what we’ve done—years and years and years of work,” says Moody. “It’s time for us to take our way and go do something else, so after this year… my new band, Villain… I’m so excited.”
Moody adds that he will complete the band’s remaining tour dates for 2017 and then leave the group.

What will happen with FFDP now that they’re going to lose Moody as the vocalist and the frontman? Will they find a new singer or will they decide not to continue without Moody? The band has yet to comment on the situation. What do you think? Leave your comments below.

Anyhow, it looks like it’s not going to be an easy time for the band: Five Finger Death Punch are currently sorting out a record label dispute, as they recently went to court to sue their longtime label Prospect Park.
