Croatia hasn’t won Eurovision yet but it just got one step closer to their goal with Baby Lasagna
The final of Croatian national song selection Dora has just ended with a triumphal victory of the dancing-and-prancing song ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’ from a young singer Marko Purišić, known professionally as Baby Lasagna. The track treats the listeners to an eclectic mix of pop, industrial rock and folk elements, with live staging closely reflecting the song lyrics.
The protagonist of ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’ is a young man who believes he is old enough to go and try a career in the big city.
“I’m a big boy now
I’m ready to leave
Ciao, Mama, Ciao, ay
I’m a big boy now
I’m going away and I sold my cow”
Torn by anxiety caused by the upcoming changes from the peace and quiet of rural life to city noise, the singer mentions all the things he’ll be missing:
“Gonna miss you all
But mostly my cat
Gonna miss my hay
Gonna miss my bed
Most of all, imma miss the dance
So come on y’all, let us prance”
So far Croatia’s best Eurovision result to date is the 4th place, and many believe Baby Lasagna has what it takes to turn it around. No surprise, bookmakers had confidently put ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’ into top 5 of Eurovision 2024, even before Dora semi-finals and final took place. In the semi-finals of Dora, the decision on qualifiers to the final was fully down to the public. And while the jury gave the winner decent 74 points, the public tripled that amount, indulging the singer with shocking 247 points!
