‘I Miss You’ video is a parody of this week’s viral celebrity sing-along of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’

One of the hardest things coronavirus pandemic has brought with it is people being separated for weeks and months. Friends and family members are not able to see each other, except on the screen of their mobile. And some travelers simply got stuck in another country, cut off from their homeland because of border restrictions. We understand it’s a necessity, a measure we need to follow to make the virus fade away sooner. But we miss each other.

No surprise the song ‘I Miss You’ by blink-182 springs to mind. This sense of separation during quarantine goes so well with the lyrics of the song that dozens of people recorded themselves singing along the meaningful lines.

Where are you?
And I’m so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time

The new ‘I Miss You’ footage is a parody of the viral video by Gal Gadot and friends, which spread around earlier this week. It was a video of over 20 celebrities singing the lines of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’. Among them are Natalie Portman, Will Ferrell, and Amy Adams. The original video was divisive and immediately backfired on social media, with some calling it tone-deaf and others, «anger-» or «panic-inducing».

However, the newly recorded ‘I Miss You’ sing-along is light and sweet, so it met more welcoming reactions. Not as celebrity-studded, it still includes Dr. Dog singer-songwriter Eric Slick and Pedro The Lion‘s David Bazan, as well as Mac DeMarco. Check it out:

And it’s not the only song by blink-182 fans enjoy experimenting with in this coronavirus self-isolation time. You should hear San Diego punk trio Infinite Signal covering blink-182’s biggest hit, now titled ‘Wash My Hands Again’ (instead of ‘What’s My Age Again?’).
