Smashing Pumpkin MerchandiseAlternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, which went big in the ’90s and then disappeared for six years to be reunited again in 2006, put a cat among the canaries in the mass media on November 29. What the band’s frontman Billy Corgan actually did was, he put his cats’ photo on the offensive T-shirt which says “F*ck You Anderson Cooper”. The uncensored words are aimed at the famous CNN host for his recent blunt comments about the rock star.

The whole fuss started earlier this year, when The Smashing Pumpkins vocalist appeared on the cover of the animal-rescue magazine, PAWS Chicago, spread by the animal adoption center organization. Billy Corgan is holding his two Siamese cats on the cover – both adopted from PAWS. The singer has previously helped the no-kill organization raise over $100,000.

The CNN anchor Cooper then commented in his show, Anderson Cooper 360, that not only didn’t he find Corgan’s posing for the magazine cover laudible, but being featured on print covers and taking part in TV commercials was disreputable of any serious rock star. On “The RidicuList” Cooper said:

“So perhaps Billy Corgan is, I don’t know, off his alternative rocker, but I think maybe there’s more to this. Maybe he’s being ironic, or maybe when the cool rock stars start doing less rock starry things, it kind of makes us face our own mortality. See, I want R.E.M. to stay just the way I know and love them, I don’t want ‘Everybody Hurts’ to suddenly be used in an Excedrin commercial…”

Billy Corgan’s first reaction straight after the show was delivered in these two tweets:

“Sorry to disappoint, but when I’m not raising cain for a great organization like @PAWSchicago, I’m still making REAL music”.

“I realize you’re too busy being a globalist shill to know the difference, but there are those of us who do as we like.”

Now the vocalist went as far as to start selling the uncensored anti-Cooper T-shirts. The TV host hasn’t responded to the rocker’s outspoken attacks yet. Meanwhile, as most people don’t get what is wrong with being a supporter of an animal-rescue organization, the edgy T-shirts are likely to be selling well…
