The Cure dropped the news on a simple poster outside an English bar, but not just any bar

The waiting for official news is over. The Cure have taken to their social media to finally announce their 14th studio album. It carries a strong title Songs of a Lost World and is due out November 1. Keeping fans on the edge about the record wasn’t an easy task, as the band had already teased their album-to-be at their live shows back in 2022, just to be delayed until 2024.

This awesome piece of news came on a symbolic day, Friday 13, and for fans of Robert Smith & co. Friday is always the favourite day of the week, as “it’s Friday’s I’m in love”-day in The Cure fan camp. The band teased the release of Songs of a Lost World in quite an unusual way, too – by hanging a poster outside the English bar where they played their very first live show. The Roman numerals on the poster, when converted to the day/month form, read “November 1, 2024”.

Songs of a Lost World marks The Cure’s first new album in 16 years. The band’s previous record 4:13 Dream was released in 2008, while up to 2008 the iconic group had dropped new records every four years.

In other band news, last month The Cure released a limited edition 12-inch ‘eco vinyl’ record, which features live recordings of two unreleased songs, ‘And Nothing Is Forever’ and ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye’ . The vinyl was launched via Naked Vinyl label, dedicated to promoting sustainable vinyl. Part of the net profits from the vinyl sale went to climate action charity Earth Percent.
