The68EyesUniversalMonstersA multi-platinum selling gothic act from Helsinki, The 69 Eyes, which you most probably know if you’re a HIM fan, has shared the details of their upcoming full-length Universal Monsters. The Jyrki 69-led goth’n’roll band will release the new album on Apr 22 via Nuclear Blast Records. The group has also uploaded an official YouTube trailer pulling back the curtain on the recording of Universal Monsters. Judging by the #1 trailer title ending, there are more videos from the recording studio to come, so stay tuned as Alterock will keep you updated on the new album details.

The 69 Eyes proceeded to work on the new album with Johnny Lee Michaels in Helsinki. Michaels has been the band’s producer on four consecutive records (Blessed Be, Paris Kills, Devils, Angels), so we’re probably not in for major stylistic turns or experiments, but at the same time, the musicians have established a strong trustful relationship throughout these years, so both sides can get the best our of their longtime productive collaboration.

The band’s first single from the new record, ‘Jet Fighter Plane’, will drop in a week, on Jan 15, 2016. It will be accompanied by a music video, directed by The 69 Eyes’ good old friend, photographer and director Ville Juurikkala. Watch the teaser for the song and the video of ‘Jet Fighter Plane’:

The Finnish rockers released their latest album to date, titled X, on Sep 28, 2012. X marked The 69 Eyes’ tenth studio record as well as the band’s change of label to Nuclear Blast. The LP got mixed reviews from the leading rock zines and quite contrary ratings, so with Universal Monsters album the group seems to be bearing a lot of pressure to prove they are here to stay for another ten albums.

Check out the band’s message to their fans on the upcoming release:

“Dear Vampires, here’s some news for you!

The new album’s cover artwork, as well as the first video single, were conceived by Finnish photographer and director Ville Juurikkala – known from his works for NIGHTWISH, AMORPHIS, HIM, APOCALYPTICA and MICHAEL MONROE. As the album title “Universal Monsters” refers, the band are portrayed in movie monster lightning, showing them as well classic and timeless creatures. “The covers are planned and designed as an old-school CD covers – remember when the booklets used to be as exciting as the album itself?! It will actually have five different covers being such a folder – each member of the band can be used as a cover creature of their own. Ville has really succeeded in capturing the classic movie vibe for the shots without any special make-up or photo shopping. THE 69 EYES are the universal rock ’n’ roll monsters – not so many of us left anymore,” says THE 69 EYES vocalist Jyrki. “So from real fans I wish they would get the actual CD in their hands to get the full album treatment as we have planned it to be experienced!”
