Corey Taylor says they are “doing everything old school”

January 23, 2017

Stone Sour hadn’t unveiled much about the new album, but today frontman Corey Taylor has broken the silence! Taylor has announced that the upcoming record will be titled Hydrograd and shed some light on the progress with the recording.

The frontman sat down with Rock Cellar to share a few details about the ongoing recording process:
“We are doing everything old school,” he said. “We’re recording it live and then layering stuff on top of it. We are doing a song a day, and we’ve already done nine songs; we’re about halfway done. And, yeah, it is incredible; it’s the best stuff we’ve ever written.”
Taylor and co. are recording Hydrograd at Sphere Studios in North Hollywood, California. The band has chosen to work with producer Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther) on this record, and we’ll get to see the result of this collaboration this summer through Roadrunner Records.

The new album will also be the first record to feature Christian Martucci and Johnny Chow. “It is awesome, it is amazing and people are going to lose their minds when they hear it,” says Taylor about the upcoming release.

Stone Sour’s previous album, The House of Gold & Bones, came out in two separate parts, in late 2012 and early 2013. In December, Stone Sour released a special 10-year anniversary edition of Come What(ever) May, featuring rare tracks and b-sides.

Are you wondering when Taylor is going to head to the studio to write new Slipknot material? In fact, it’s not that long to wait either: the band is reportedly planning to start work on new music next month, although the precise timetable hasn’t been revealed yet.
