George Perris is Cyprus’s pick for Eurovision 2027 in Burgas, and a national selection will soon decide his song

The Eurovision 2027 season has officially begun! Cyprus is the first country to reveal its artist: George Perris. The announcement was made by broadcaster CyBC on Wednesday, 4 November, during the morning program “Omorfi Mera” on RIK 1. For the third year in a row, Cyprus is the first to unveil its representative. Will it work in the country’s favour, or will fans treat it as “old news” later in the season?

Until the reveal, one question hung in the air: how would the song be chosen? Cypriot media hinted at a national selection back in August, which would be quite a twist, as the island has picked its entries internally every year since 2017. Today, along with the artist announcement, CyBC confirmed that George Perris’s song will be chosen at a live national selection, the first Cypriot national final since 2015.

Songwriters are welcome to submit their entries until 13 December 2026 at 22:59 CET. A CyBC committee will decide how many songs make it to the televised show, and in best Eurovision tradition, the winner will be determined by a 50/50 split between public vote and expert jury. The date of the show is yet to be confirmed.

Born in Athens in August 1983 to a Greek father and a French mother, George sings in Greek, French, English and Spanish, which is ideal for an international contest like this. He released the French album Un Souhait (2012), featuring a duet with the iconic Lara Fabian, followed by the English-language album Picture This in 2014. His recent releases include the Greek-language album Mazi I Kanis (2025) and the live EP In Concert (2026).
