‘Just Pretend’ went top 50 viral on TikTok 8 months ago, and its success didn’t stop there
Despite the fact Bad Omens originally wrote their track ‘Just Pretend’ as a rock parody, it quickly became a success, from TikTok to Spotify and beyond. Now that the group also launched an emotional story-telling music video for it on YouTube, it garnered almost 400,000 views in the first two days.
Commenting on the success of ‘Just Pretend’, Bad Omens told NME last month:
“I feel like it transcends genre, rock or metal [in] a way that even people that don’t particularly listen to that type of music very often really like it. That’s always been the goal with this band, to expand the musical horizons of people both in and out of rock. I want people that don’t listen to rock and metal to get into it because of our band, and I want people that only listen to that to get into other genres because of our band.”

Directed by Erik Rojas and depicting the narrative, written by the band’s vocalist Noah Sebastian, the brand-new music video perfectly accompanies the already blossoming track. Interestingly, perfectly performing songs often get written in a matter of hours:
“I was kind of just freestyling,” vocalist Noah Sebastian said of the track in an interview with NME. “I had written some chords, and I just started singing in the booth over it. And this melody came out, the lyrics came out really quickly.”
