Entertainment Weekly has dug out the video of an interview with legendary horror filmmaker John Carpenter, the director of the original Halloween film. The video became viral among music media outlets, and not without a reason. In the interview, Carpenter doesn’t even try to take the edge of his straightforward comments about Zombie and his remake of the 1978 horror classic.

Instead, Carpenter calls the rocker a lying “piece of shit”, explaining: “He said I was very cold to him when he told me he was going to make it. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
Carpenter reassures that he was quite supportive of Zombie’s remake. “I said, ‘Make it your own movie, man. This is yours now. Don’t worry about me.’ I was incredibly supportive. Why that piece of shit lied, I don’t know.”

Is the legendary filmmaker as bitter about Zombie’s remake of the film in question? Not as much, but he believes Zombie “took away the mystique” in his film, exposing the character, Michael Myers, too much.

“I thought he took away the mystique of the story by explaining too much about [Michael Myers],” says the legendary director. “I don’t care about that. He’s supposed to be a force of nature, he’s supposed to be almost supernatural, and he was too big.”

Zombie’s Halloween remake came out in 2007 and its sequel – in 2009. Interestingly, Carpenter is now working on a new sequel for the film, promising it to the most frightening of all. “Thirty-eight years after the original Halloween I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all,” reassures the horror filmmaker.
