Jonathan Davis’s debut album Black Labyrinth is so versatile, it feels like a best hits record
March 19, 2018
Korn singer’s debut solo record had been in progress for several years before it took the shape of the actual album. Today, Jonathan Davis has officially announced the title of the solo album, Black Labyrinth, and its release date, May 25, via Sumerian Records.
To make our anticipation even more impatient, he has unveiled the teasers for each album track, and they more than lived up to our expectations! The fact that the work on the album lasted for a few years makes the record blossom in all its versatility, as if we’re listening to a career-spanning best hits compilation, where every single track is a gem. Black Labyrinth is full of potential fan’s favorites, be it the theatrical second track ‘Final Days’ or the epic ‘Basic Needs’, showcasing Davis’s distinctive own style. On the other hand, there are noticeably lighter and less “Korn” tracks, which might take a while to get used to – give a listen to ‘Your God’ or ‘Walk On By’.
On the heavier side, Davis is offering us ‘Everyone’ and ‘Happiness’, revealing the more aggressive side of the record. And picking it up from Korn’s dub-step offering, The Path Of Totality, is the song ‘What You Believe’, masterfully accentuated with electronic beats.
