“The 24-hour news cycle is just impossible to comprehend”, Paramore say about the new single

Paramore are looking at the affects of media and news overload on our fragile psyche in the new single ‘The News’. It’s the second track off of their new record, This Is Why, due out February 10 via Atlantic.

The music video for single, directed by Mike Kluge and Matthew DeLisi, differs a lot from their previous work, ‘This Is Why’, and reminds of a horror movie, The video shows Hayley Williams staring into the camera, her mind frozen, as a result of scrolling through the never-ending flood of information on social media and beyond.

Introducing the track, Williams wrote:

“[‘The News’] feels like a happy medium between classic Paramore angst and bringing in some influences we’ve always had but never exploited. Watching Zac [Farro] track drums for this one was one of my favorite memories from the studio. Lyrically, it probably explains itself. The 24-hour news cycle is just impossible to comprehend. And I feel a pang of guilt when I unplug to protect my headspace. The common reaction, or non-reaction, seems to be dissociation. Not one of us is innocent of that, and who could blame us?”

Throughout this fall, Paramore have been very active. Apart from announcing the new album in September and releasing its first singles, they also headlined When We Were Young Festival at the end of October. Besides, the band gave a few smaller shows on their own.

The nearing 2023 will see Paramore going on their North American tour as a headliner, with Bloc Party, Foals, Genesis Owusu and the Linda Lindas as support.
