The ex-vocalist of one of Finland’s most famous bands has announced an album with new band, The Dark Element
August 29, 2017
Anette Olzon had been pretty quiet since she left her Finnish symphonic metal mates from Nightwish. Although a few hints popped up that she has been involved in a new project recently, only now the mystery can be disclosed. As it turns out, Olzon had formed a group (or shall we say supergroup?) with guitarist Jani Liimatainen, former guitarist and one of the founding members of power metal band Sonata Arctica, reports Soundi.
Olzon and Liimatainen have been really productive as a team, joined by bassist Jonas Kuhlberg ja drummer Jani Hurula. They’ve now announced a whole debut album of their new band, The Dark Element, and unleashed an energetic track of the same name.
According to Olzon, she and Liimatainen have been “a perfect match” in terms of working together:

Ex-Sonata Artica’s guitarist seems to be as excited as Olzon. In the official statement, Lilmatainen said, “I have always been a big fan of Anette’s voice and when the opportunity to work with her arose, writing and producing an album, it was something I just couldn’t say no! It has been a blast working on the songs and I can’t wait for everyone to hear the final result. This will be epic! The songs are extremely melodic and to the point. My goal has been to write catchy songs with hooks that will haunt your dreams, and I think it’s pretty much ‘mission accomplished.’ Stay tuned for something special!”
Stylistically, it rather reminds of Nightwish’s works of Anette Olzon-period but has a new touch to it as well. Listen to the the band’s debut single below and tell us if we feel the same.
The Dark Element is due for release on November 10. Do you like their debut track? Share your thoughts in the comments, and join AlteRock Facebook and Twitter to stay tuned for rock and metal news.
