The long-awaited live shows are following the latest release, Bodies, launched June 11
We’ve missed live shows for 1,5 years now and it’s so refreshing and exciting to see our favorite bands back on stage – no online stream, no pre-record, no holograms or whatever replacement of an actual live set. AFI have just announced their 26-show Bodies tour in support of the latest album of the same name.
Bodies was released a bit over a week ago, June 11, meaning the band’s first studio album in 4 years – since 2017’s AFI (The Blood Album). The tour is kicking off exactly in eight months from the album release date, February 11, 2022.
This headlining tour has surely been a long wait. Fans last saw AFI on stage back in 2017 on the Blood tour. You can see the band’s official announcement the new tour below. In the video post, AFI’s live pics are shown with the first song off their album, ‘Twisted Tongues’, playing on the background. Interestingly, the band had written ‘Twisted Tongues’ even before the pandemic unfolded, so fans can now feel the difference between AFI’s sound “before and after”.
Tickets for Bodies tour will be on sale Friday, June 25, while local presales kicking off 24h before. You can purchase the tickets via the band’s website.
On tour, AFI will be supported by darkwave synth-pop band Cold Cave. The band has recently released its newest EP, Fate In Seven Lessons.
Life is slowly getting back to normal for AFI, and hopefully, without more delays. Initially, album Bodies was supposed to come out way earlier. But both the album release and the performance at the U.K.-based 2000trees festival got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new AFI album offers a bit different sound, compared to what Davey Havok & Co. used to share. Besides, Bodies includes a writing contribution from The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan. The masterminds of the two bands came up with a non-trivial ‘Dulcería’, which dropped on April 9.
“Every album is an opportunity to show people a snapshot of our evolution,” bassist Hunter Burgan said about Bodies album. “And with this band, it’s always something fresh. We’ve been playing together for so long that I have a deep understanding of each of my bandmates’ musical styles, and yet I am still pleasantly surprised by the new things they bring to each record.”
