Is Europe ready for the “blood and glitter”?

Germany has had quite ill fate in Eurovision Song Contest over the past few years. Last year wasn’t an exception. Malik Harris’s ‘Rockstars‘ landed at the last, 25th place at Eurovision with six points (and he owes those points only to televoting, as the performance received no points from international juries). But the country’s “curse” of zero points and last place in Eurovision might be over this year.

Why? Germany took it seriously this year and organized a new selection “Unser Lied für Liverpool” (Our Song for Eurovision), with 9 songs competing for the right to represent Germany in the UK in Eurovision Grand Final. And to the delight of many gothic metal fans, one of the acts is Lord of the Lost with ‘Blood and Glitter’.

The band, which draws its inspiration from Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, differs dramatically from the other seven announced acts of “Unser Lied für Liverpool” (the 9th act is to be selected via TikTok). Among the other participants are Lana Del Rey-sounding Anica Russo with “Once Upon a Dream“, a folk-pop singer Patty Gurdy with upbeat “Melodies Of Hope” and women-empowering dance-pop Frida Gold with a lyrical song “Alle Frauen in mir sind müde“.

Lord of the Lost has also launched a music video for ‘Blood and Glitter’. Rich in red colour and pouring with glitter rain, the video is also a clothes design marvel that even Lady Gaga could get jealous of. Whether it’s enough to impress German and international viewers, we’ll find out in the selection final on March 3. The results will be a sum of 50% international juries’ votes and 50% televoting.
