Chester Bennington told ARTISTdirect how being a part of Stone Temple Pilots unveiled a new side to him as a musician and a performer

Chester Bennington, who now plays in two bands at the same time, Stone Temple Pilots and Linkin Park, was interviewed on March 31 by ARTISTdirect.com and shared how his experience in Stone Temple Pilots has influenced him as a musician and a performer.
Chester Bennington has been doing the vocals at Stone Temple Pilots gigs since 2013, and the musicians are currently writing their first full-length album. Besides, the band can’t wait to hit the road with a spring headline tour in North America.
Linkin Park’s frontman points out that singing live with STP differs a lot from performing with Linkin Park. “It has been great to inject my energy into the live show of STP. It’s a different monster”, he says in the interview with ARTISTdirect. “What I do up on stage with STP, I feel differently than I do with Linkin Park. It’s sexier. With Linkin Park, it’s pretty much pure anger [laughs]. It is a lot of fun to get up there and play with these guys and have a different energy”.
Now that the band is writing new material for the full-length record, Bennington believes that the more poetic nature of the lyrics in STP has liberated him a lot as well. “It is fun to write these songs. With Linkin Park, things are pretty literal. There’s not a whole lot of poetry going on or clever lines that may not have a direct meaning but have some underlying meaning with what’s going on. Writing for STP, I get to be a lot more poetic. I get to be a lot more clever with my wording. It makes it a lot of fun because I get to be more colorful… In Linkin Park, because there are two writers with Mike and I, we both need to believe in what we’re saying to get a point across”.
