This year Latvia and Georgia broke their 6-year non-qualification streak at Eurovision Song Contest as both Dons and Nutsa qualified for the Grand Final. The previous time Latvia managed to qualify was in 2016 a song by Justs, performing ‘Heartbeat’. Since then, the streak has been unlucky for Latvia, marking the country’s dead last result in 2017 and 2021.

Prior to that, Latvia had not participated in the Eurovision final from 2009 to 2014, when they failed to qualify from the semi-finals for six years in a row, including coming last in three of those years – 2009, 2010 and 2013.
Dons won the hearts of Eurofans in the Second Semi-Final with his heartfelt, tear-jerking song ‘Hollow’, which bookies had unanimously predicted not to have qualified. It’s also notable that this year is one the rarest years in the contest history with all the Baltic entries successfully making it to the Grand Final. The other two Baltic acts were 5Miinust x Puuluup from Estonia and Silvester Belt from Lithuania.

Swiss singer Nemo won Eurovision 2024 with the song ‘The Code’, which means Eurovision 2025 will be held in Switzerland. See AlteRock’s exclusive photo gallery of Dons’ performances from Semi-Final and Grand Final rehearsals below.
