‘The Chain’ combines “the game world together with the band performance in a post-apocalyptic setting”, says the director

“You would never break the chain”, goes the song, and you can never break Evanescence. That’s the message the band put into the new music video for their cover of ‘The Chain’. The song appears on the video game Gears of War 5, and the colors in the clip certainly bring war to mind. Watch the new video below.

Evanescence launched their version of Fleetwood Mac‘s hit ‘The Chain’ back in November 2019. Amy Lee’s vocals landed on Gears of War 5, and the game set new records as the biggest launch of Xbox Game Studios.

The new Evanescence music video stays interconnected with the video game. Some of you might notice game-related footage on the background. “The goal of the video is to show the bond of this band as they deliver a powerful take on a classic song,” says the video’s director P.R. Brown (My Chemical Romance, Green Day).

“The tie in with Gears 5 presented an opportunity to combine the game world together with the band performance in a post-apocalyptic setting. The band emerges from the ashes to come together. We wanted to bring these worlds together and feel both the force of the band and the game,” he explains.

For Amy Lee, who is now in works on Evanescence’s new album, the lyrics of ‘The Chain’ are certainly bigger than that:

“The lyrics make me feel the power of standing together against great forces trying to pull us apart, perhaps even from the inside,” the singer says. “I really wanted to drive that home in our version.”
