Miley Cyrus’ seventh studio album Plastic Hearts is out November 27

Just when you thought that ‘Head Like a Hole’ cover of Nine Inch Nails was all Miley Cyrus had to do with rock, she has made an official announcement that the new era of her music career is all about rock. The singer has unveiled that her rock album Plastic Hearts is coming out at the end of November.

In fact, Cyrus has long been into rock music. From her live cover of Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and ‘Old Town Road’ performance at Glastonbury festival to singing ‘Say Hello 2 Heaven’ at Chris Cornell’s tribute concert. Not to forget her recently covers of Blondie‘s ‘Heart Of Glass’ and the Cranberries‘ ‘Zombie’.

Funnily enough, Miley Cyrus had even “threatened” her team to record a rock record if she feels quite happy about her upcoming pop tracks:

“I actually used making this record as a threat to my team at one point,” Cyrus said on Zach Sang Show. “Like, after the last record, I was like, ‘Listen, I’m gonna try pop one more time. If I feel like I just can’t sleep at night with it, I’m gonna make a rock record.’ And they were like, ‘Well, then why are you waiting, you never wait, just do it,’ and so I was like, ‘You’re right. I don’t know, I don’t know why I’m, like, threatening you with a record that feels like the right next step to me.’”

Her new album Plastic Hearts has been in progress for over two years, and it surely didn’t help when she lost her home in Malibu to wildfires, raging all over California:

“If you’re reading this… know that I fucking love and appreciate you on the deepest level,” she says. “I began this album over 2 years ago. Thought I had it all figured out. Not just the record with its songs and sounds but my whole fucking life. But no one checks an ego like life itself. Just when I thought the body of work was finished… it was ALL erased. Including most of the music’s relevance. Because EVERYTHING had changed.”

Even though Californian fires took her home, most of the hard work on the rock album survived in this or that format and could be restored.

“Nature did what I now see as a favor and destroyed what I couldn’t let go of for myself,” she continues. “I lost my house in a fire but found myself in its ashes.”

“Luckily my collaborators still had most of the music that was burned up in journals and computers filled with songs for the EP series I was working on at the time,” she says. “But it never felt right to release my ‘story’ (each record being a continual autobiography) with a huge chapter missing.”

Plastic Hearts marks the start of a new era for Cyrus, and the singer is contemplating how she could call this chapter of her life:

“If it were a chapter in my book I guess I would call it ‘The Beginning’ which usually when something is over we call it ‘The End,’” she says. “But it was far from that.”

Plastic Hearts album is strongly inspired by Metallica. Apart from the upcoming November release, Cyrus is, reportedly, even working on a Metallica covers album! Will some of her Metallica covers already land on Plastic Hearts or will they constitute an independent release? We’ll see for ourselves soon. So far, what’s confirmed is that the upcoming album features Billy Idol and Dua Lipa as special guests.

Plastic Hearts comes out November 27 with impressive photography by iconic Mick Rock. Check it out below along with Miley Cyrus’s full post on Instagram. And be sure to watch ‘Midnight Sky,’ the lead single off the forthcoming record.
