“I was hooked on this show,” Andy Biersack recollects his admiration of Sweeney Todd

Black Veil Brides are here to make our summer special. The band had recently dropped the Sweeney Todd-inspired video for ‘Bleeders’, featured on their upcoming EP of the same name. The EP will be out June 21 via Spinefarm, with whom the group has just inked a deal.

BVB’s passion for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street doesn’t end there. Andy Biersack & co. have now released another single, the cover of ‘My Friends’, originally sung in the musical by Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

In the movie, ‘My Friends’ frames the scene inside Sweeney Todd’s old barber shop above Mrs. Lovett’s pie shop. The shopkeeper lifts a floorboard to uncover a small box containing all of Sweeney’s razors.

BVB’s rendition of ‘My Friends’ exclusively premiered via Playbill. Introducing the track, Biersack says he remembers making his parents watch him sing Sweeney Todd songs in handmade outfits:

“From the first time I picked up my dad’s copy of the original cast recording and heard Len Cariou’s powerful and sinister portrayal of Sweeney, I was hooked on this show. As a little kid, I would insist that all my family gather around and watch me perform songs like ‘My Friends’ in my full homemade costume.

“We wanted to do something that felt true to the spirit of the original and all subsequent iterations while also feeling distinctly Black Veil Brides and we are thrilled with how it turned out.”

Black Veil Brides are wrapping up the spring with impressive streaming “harvest”. They accumulated over 5 million streams on ‘Bleeders’ in just a few weeks since its release and made it to Top 30 at rock radio.

This weekend, BVB’s run of The Bleeders Tour is coming to an end. The tour incorporated a virtual blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross. “As Bleeders, it’s our mission to effect positive change,” says the band. “Help us to help others in this time of need.”
